Black pugs or fawn pugs?

If a fawn pug is bred with a black pug the litter will be black.
But the actual origins of the black pug are not fully known.
Black pugs are thought to have been brought to the UK by Lady Brassey in 1886. She entered her black pugs into a dog show and they were met with great interest.
The famous pug breeder, Queen Victoria, owned a black pug but it is reported to have had white feet and while marking on the chest too.
The black breed, other than being black in color, also has some other characteristics which distinguish it from its fawn relatives.
Black Pugs have different characteristic to the face and the markings down the back.
The black pug inevitable came about by cross breeding with another short faced small dog.
As Fawn pugs are an ancient breed it is not clear when the first Black Pug came about but we can assume that it was early in the life of the breed as much breeding must have went into the creation of the original breed.
