The Pug is classified as a Toy Dog mainly because of its size.

Appearance.

The fully grown pug is described as square and cobby. With short legs and a stocky body

Size and weight

Weight from 14 to 18 pounds (dog or bitch) is about a standard and the dog will stand about 12 – 14 inches in height.

Head and face

The pugs head is large and round. The eyes are dark, very large. The ears are thin, small, soft, like black velvet. The wrinkles of the face are are large and deep. The muzzle is short and blunt.

Neck and Body

A pugs neck is strong, thick, and holds the head proudly. The back is level and the body is short.

Coat

The coat is fine, smooth, soft, short and glossy.

Color

The colors are fawn or black.

Markings

The markings are clearly defined. The muzzle or mask, ears, moles on cheeks, thumb mark or diamond on forehead are black. The more intense and well defined it is, the better.

Temperament

The pug is an even-tempered breed with great charm, dignity, and an outgoing, loving disposition.

Life Span

Pugs life for 12 – 15 years.
